These are four sketches that I created for the Vans custom culture contest. Going from left to right, the first three shoes fall under the category of art and the last one would be local flavor where I represented San Diego!
For the first three shoe designs that I did I started with an idea for a tie dye sort of look. I started with one color in the middle of the side of the shoe and made a sort of a spiral going out from the middle to make it really look like tie dye. I left the border of that all black because I wanted the colors to really pop. For my next shoe I just started by shading dark around the edge of the shoe with purple and then I sort of let it fade away. I tried to choose a color that would not only go well with the purple, but be very different and clash with it. I did the same thing with that color and started shading in dark wherever the last color faded off. On the third shoe, I decided to use a koh-i-noor black pen and just start doing intricate designs and see where it goes from there. It turned out really pretty and I was super proud of it. For the last shoe design I did I tried to incorporate everything that reminds me of San Diego. On the bottom I have palm trees on a sandy island, waves going around the base of the shoe and some whales under the waves. Then over the palm trees I have a sunset with all the different colors you can see in the sky, and over the waves on the side of the shoe I have a starry night sky. Theres a little piece of the shoe that says San diego and it's surrounded by tiny suns. On the top of the tongue of the shoe I wrote 'Theres no place like home' and finally, at the bottom of the tongue, I drew San Diego's skyline with something similar to waves under, and a sunset above it.
