The first thing our group decided to do was to get markers and just begin listing down things that we like in backpacks, and things that we really disliked in our backpacks. You can see all our finished ideas in the picture above, on the left. We started with very simple ideas, such as pockets, styles, patterns, and the amount of things it can carry in it. For cons of backpacks, we wrote down things like bags being too heavy, the zippers getting caught in the fabric of our bags, and the bags just being plain ugly. At this point, we started to jot down ideas about our dream backpack that would have everything we could possibly need. Our ideas flowed out such as a fridge, microwave, wii/hotspot, built in computer, built in speaker, charger outlets, something that could fly, massagers, footrest, polaroids or cameras, and of course a solar powered battery that would last for up to one whole week. Then we started thinking about the mechanics of the bag like how it would fly, we gave it retractable wheels that would turn sideways into little spinners that would act as a hover board. We also decided that it should be a plain, customizable for color, box. It would be the simplest and most easy form that we could get. Also, yo wouldn't have to pull or carry this box around anywhere because it would come with a control bracelet that would be synced with the bag and it would just follow you around.
Personally, I really liked the whole idea of getting an empty sheet of poster paper and filling it up with crazy, out of the world ideas. I really enjoyed being able to have a completely open mind to work with without having to think of the restrictions and law of physics. After we got all the ideas out, and started sketching I think it was definitely easier for us to just let our imagination run wild. I think it's crazy how we started with a sketch of a tiny cube and just started to add ideas to it. Next time we do something like this I think something I would do differently is to not hesitate as much as I did this time when we had to first write down our ideas on the poster paper. Overall, I really enjoyed this project because of how much freedom we got from it.
