This year I have grown as a student and as a mathematician by learning how to communicate and organize my time. In past years I have often found myself unable to ask questions and get appropriate help when I am stuck or confused in a class, especially math. I realized this year that the only way to help myself understands concepts that were difficult, I would need to be able to communicate with someone who was comfortable with the content and willing to help me. I successfully found myself getting help from my peers and my teachers in order for me to be the best that I could. My most significant accomplishment this year was being selected to be a teaching assistant in math during second semester. I feel that this also plays a big role in how I contributed to the learning environment in the classroom. By getting the opportunity to be TA for a semester I not only got to experience the hardships of being a teacher, but I got to have moments with my peers in which I helped them shine a light on difficult math concepts that they didn’t understand. I feel that the weekly lessons that my partner and I provided for the class were effective when they went well because our peers were getting the chance to learn from their peers who they are more comfortable asking questions and getting help from. Next year i hope to balance my workload so that i don’t find myself as often staying up late at night to finish multiple assignments. It’s not that I was putting off my work until the last minute, it was more that I would try to cram everything into the day that it was assigned which made me stress out more. Next year I plan to have maximum two hours planned out to balance all of my work that i get from classes!
