The book I chose for this project is Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, and the character that I chose is Eleanor. Eleanor is known for her huge red puffy hair that sits upon her round face. She doesn't stand tall at all, in fact, she's very short for a sixteen year old. Eleanor is someone who has too much of everything, and absolutely nowhere to hide it. You could probably say she looked about ready to work in medieval pubs. A very distinguishing facial feature that she has is her freckles. Freckles. Freckles everywhere, on her cheeks, on her nose, even her arms. Eleanor is closest to her smallest sibling Maisie, and because she's so young and small, Eleanor tries her best to protect her. Eleanor has 4 siblings, Ben, Maisie, Mouse, and Richie jr. Eleanor has a mother who has seemed to suck in all of the beauty and left Eleanor with none. Her step-dad, if that's what you would call him, is Richie. Richie is the single most nasty, awful person you would ever meet. He would never thing twice before calling Eleanor vulgar names and throwing cuss words at her like baseballs. Eleanor's home is a very small house that all seven characters live in together, of course, all the kids share one small bedroom that has a petite bunk bed squeezed into the corner where of course, as the oldest, leanor sleeps on the top bunk. On nights when all the kids can hear Richie calling their mother by names that they would never even consider letting fall from thier mouths, Eleanor gives up her safe house to come down and comfort all her siblings back to sleep. Eleanor's biggest fear is Park turning on her. Although he never would, she can't help but think that maybe, just maybe, he is like the rest of them somewhere else on the inside. After all, in Eleanor's eyes, Park is nothing but perfect. Way too good than anything she had ever hoped for.
She has only one secret of course. It's the most obvious secret I mean, of course this would be it. Park. Park was her secret. She didn't want anyone to know about her and Park. No wait. Let me re phrase that. She didn't want other people showing Park all the reasons he shouldn't be in love with her. It was selfish, but Eleanor couldn't help it. But most of all, besides all the people at school, she could never let Richie find out about Park. Richie would kill her. She would never be able to see him gain, Richie would do anything to get her away from Park if he knew. Eleanor sometimes shutters at the thought that Richie might even ship her off to some distant relative that they haven't spoken to for ten years. But not because he wanted to protect her from all the heartbreak that would come with being in love with someone i high school. No. That would imply that Richie cared about Eleanor's heart. No. The only reason Richie would forbid her from seeing him would be to use it for his own pleasure in taking her happiness away from her. Park is, after all, her only source of happiness in this twisted life she has been given to live.
