Periodic-als Element Research
Element Selected: Neon (Ne)
Why did you select this element? I selected this item because the only thing I know about neon is about highlighters, and neon colors. I wanted to know more about the uses and purpose of neon.

History Facts
1. Discovered by British chemists Sir William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers in 1898, very shortly after they had discovered Krypton.
2. In 1902 a French engineer Georges Claude used surplus neon that was leftover from his air liquefaction to make neon signs.
3. which later became a huge success to businesses that used them as advertising signs.
4. Just like Krypton, Neon was discovered through experimentation/study of liquified air.
5. Neon is immensely inert and forms no known compounds, but there is actually some evidence that it could form a compound with Flourine.
Uses Facts
1. Today, Neon is used in vacuum tubes, high-voltage indicators, and television tubes.
2. Neon signs, which are very commonly used for advertising, also use neon. The most common sign that everyone probably knows about are 'open' and 'close' signs.
3. Combining Neon with Helium makes Helium-Neon lasers which are used in many applications for research.
4. It is said that in the future it is possible to freeze and unfreeze people and they'll still be alive. If this was to work, liquid Neon might be a good way to go. Liquid Neon happens to not only be less expensive, more compact, but it actually has 40 times more refrigerating capacity that liquid Helium and three times that of Hydrogen.
5. Because of Neon's ability to be used in cold places, it is very commonly used for aircraft beacons and aircrafts.
Properties Facts
1. Physically, Neon is seen as a gas.
2. Only 0.0018 of Neon can be found in the Earth's atmosphere.
3. Neon's boiling point is -410.94 degrees, and it's melting point is -415.46 degrees
4. Neon is an inert gas, it has 8 valence electrons and is completely stable.
5. Neon is an odorless, tasteless, non-toxic gas.
